I hope you had a great weekend! We spent ours at St. Teresa Beach where my husband’s family has a beach house. It’s one of my favorite places in the whole world and it was so fun to make new memories with Lively there this weekend. Despite it raining all weekend due to Tropical Storm Alberto, we still had a blast lounging around, eating, napping and playing with Lively.
Lively also got initiated at “Beach Church.” St Teresa Beach Church is literally a screened in porch on stilts and the families who have homes in the area have been gathering for worship there during the summers for generations!
Because we were stuck inside all weekend, it was the perfect opportunity to catch up with family, especially my sweet sister-in-law, Caroline, who lives in Jacksonville and I don’t get to see very often. We were talking about one of my favorite subjects (food) and somehow the conversation lead to Whole30. Whole30 is a 30-day clean-eating plan designed to clean up your eating habits by cutting out foods that might be having a negative impact on your health – specifically dairy, sugar, grains, legumes, and alcohol. If you follow me on Instagram or have been reading the blog for a bit then you know that I already follow a paleo diet and eat a lot of Whole 30 recipes already, but it’s been a year since I’ve done the Whole 30 program and followed all the rules strictly for 30 days. Long story short, Caroline and I both want to see some changes in our overall health and have decided to do Whole30 during the month of June.
Why do it again now?
Since I’ve had Lively and have been exclusively breastfeeding, not only am I constantly hungry and never feel full, but I have been craving sugar like crazy. I used to make paleo-friendly desserts here and there as a treat, but recently I’ve been making them all the time to satisfy sweet cravings. I’ve been telling myself that because they’re made with coconut flour and sweetened with maple syrup that it’s ok and I know it’s not. It’s still sugar and it’s not good for me. So while I already don’t do grains, dairy, soy and alcohol, I’m doing Whole30 this time to specifically shake this sugar addiction that’s resurfaced since I’ve had a baby. I need to control the “sugar dragon” because lately it’s been controlling me.
I’ve already started reading up on doing Whole30 while breastfeeding and have found tons of great resources and tips like this one here. I’m going to get my ducks in a row this week and will start next Monday, June 4. I’ll be sure to share updates on Instagram and will try and put together a blog post this week on some of my favorite Whole 30 recipes and what I plan on eating on a regular basis. If you feel like you need a health reset or are like me and need to tame your “sugar dragon,” I’d love for you to join me and my sister-in-law on this journey for the next month! If you do decide to do it, let me know in the comments so we can hold each other accountable and I can be praying for you!
