Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday and this year certainly did not disappoint. This was the first major holiday we’ve celebrated with Lively and it was also her first visit to our family farm in Thomasville, GA (one of my favorite places in the world). It was such a gift to make these new memories with her – ones that I’ll cherish forever.
This farm has been in our family since the 1700’s and we’ve been gathering here for our Thanksgiving Day celebrations since before I was born. Our Thanksgiving is more like a family reunion. We have anywhere between 50-75 people (our record is 124!) and we do it potluck style where everyone brings a covered dish. From fried turkey and fresh shucked cream corn to bacon wrapped dove and decadent squash casserole, it is truly the most amazing spread of homemade Southern dishes. Did you happen to see this meme floating around on Instagram? Yah, that’s me when it comes to Thanksgiving. I believe in working really hard and making the best nutrition choices for my body, but when I decide to splurge, I enjoy it and let it go.
We have a big lunch at 1:00 pm and the rest of the day is spent riding around the farm in my Uncle David’s mule, going to see the baby pigs, shooting skeet, or lounging inside watching football.
The Friday after Thanksgiving, all the girls head to downtown Thomasville for some Black Friday shopping. I do most of my shopping online, but I did snag this fun Barbour hat from Kevin’s (one of the prettiest shops in town). If you’ve never been to downtown Thomasville, GA, it’s worth putting on your list. It is the quintessential Southern town bursting with charm and history plus it offers dozens of cute retail shops and some of the most amazing restaurants. My favorite retail boutiques in Thomasville are Firefly and Relish and my favorite restaurants are Sweet Grass Dairy, Liams, Jonah’s and Chop House on the Bricks.
I hope you had wonderful Thanksgiving full of great food, family, and friends. I’m so thankful for this little blog and the way God has used it to connect me with so many new friends over the last year. Thank you for reading along – it truly means so much to me!
“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1
