When we were struggling with infertility three years ago, God led me to a holistic nutritionist that not only opened my eyes to a whole new life of healthy eating, but one of healthy LIVING as well (see this blog post for more on this!).
Since then, I have been on a journey to clean up everything and anything that goes in my body, comes in contact with my skin or is part of my environment. Disclaimer: Obviously I cannot control all of these things, but I do the best I can and try to make wise choices for my health. I am certainly not doing this perfectly, but am always learning and will continue to be a work in progress!
I’ve made progress on cleaning up my makeup bag and countless personal care items (shampoo, deodorant, lotion, etc.) along with everyday household cleaning items like laundry detergent and dish soap. This summer, one of my goals has been to gradually start replacing cotton items we use on a daily basis like towels and sheets – and ladies, we should absolutely be using organic tampons but I’ll save that post for another day! 🙂
Did you know that cotton is considered the “dirtiest” crop and that more chemical pesticides are used for cotton than for any other crop? Yikes. I recently did a deep dive into the scary world of conventional cotton (how it’s made and what it’s treated with) and it did not take long to see why organic cotton is so much better for our health and the environment. Here’s a good article.
Weezie Towels recently sent me a set of their towels to try and I’ve got to say, I fell in love pretty quickly. Yes, they are as soft, fluffy and beautiful in real life as they look in these pictures, but the best part is, they’re made of 100% organic cotton and are completely free of toxic chemicals. Weezie’s towels are actually OEKO-TEX® certified which means they’ve gone above and beyond the legal requirements to ensure that textiles earning their label are at the forefront of safety. This means their products have been put through extensive testing to ensure that the cotton has not been unnecessarily treated with harmful chemicals like pesticides and lead.
- They are super absorbent
- Lightweight and luxurious (better than hotel quality)
- All of their towels have a sewn-in hook for hanging
- They can be personalized with your monogram and colored piping (adds an element of interest and style to your bathroom)
- They’re a small business founded by women with amazing customer service
Have you gone organic with your towels or other cotton items you use regularly? I’d love to hear in the comments!
