With holidays on the horizon, overnight guests are about to become more frequent so I’ve recently set out to make our guest room as comfortable and inviting as possible. I actually started this project last fall, but never quite finished. Thanks to my friends at Serena & Lily, the room is finally complete and I’m excited to share five thoughtful ways to welcome fall guests:
- Keep the room simple and uncluttered: Less equals more. A comfy bed, two bedside tables and two lamps are all you need (and maybe a small dresser if the room doesn’t have a closet). Try to avoid making the guest room a dumping ground for random things.
- Opt for a neutral color palette: While an all-white or neutral color palette may seem boring, it actually helps create an inviting and therapeutic sleeping space. I love the way Serena & Lily’s Montecito Pillows add interest and texture without being distracting. Bonus: these pillows are actually designed to be used indoor or outdoor which means they’re super durable and you don’t have to worry about them getting dingy from repeated use.
- Bedside goodies: I’m not one to put together a full welcome basket, but I do add a glass water bottle, two small cups and a few cut blooms (these zinnias are from the backyard garden) in a vase to the nightstands before guests arrive. It is a thoughtful gesture that goes along way. Plus, if they get thirsty during the night they don’t have to go digging around for something to drink. How cute would these coasters be next to the glasses?!
- Consider Curtains: Not only do curtains create a softer look to the room, but they also give your guests the option for more privacy and light blocking if they want to sleep in and don’t want to be woken with the sunrise.
- Prayer: This ones free! You can start praying for your guests as soon as their visit date is on the calendar. Asking God to protect them as they travel and to bless the time you spend together is the most thoughtful way you can welcome your loved ones into your home.
Whether you’re looking to cozy up your guestroom for the holidays or have been waiting to invest in some new quality furniture pieces, I cannot recommend Serena & Lily enough. They are known for their fresh take on casual dining, best-in-class bedding, and coastal style that elevates any space. From hand woven rattan counter stools to cozy wool throws, Serena & Lily has everything you need to update your space in preparation for welcoming friends & family into your home.

Their Macramé Crib Skirt is one of my favorite items in Lively’s nursery and their crib sheets are adorable and amazing quality. I have several sets that my best friend passed onto me which means they have been through two rounds of babies and still look like new!
