There is something so nostalgic about the house dress. A southern woman staple for doing things around the house while still being presentable in case you need to run out for a quick errand. My Grannie (whom I adored) frequently donned a house dress whether she was having her morning coffee while reading the paper, working at her sewing machine or watering her flower beds. While house dresses have been around for generations, the rise of the Grandmillenial style and the novel Coronavirus keeping everyone in their homes can be attributed to its rise in popularity again. As a lover of all things classic style and a work-from-home mom that wants something lightweight and comfortable for everyday wear, I have been fully embracing the house dress in this season of life.
Originally made popular in the late 1910’s, house dresses were created to be both attractive and practical. Although the modern house dress still serves its around-the-house purpose, they certainly don’t look as frumpy as they once did. Now, most house dresses feature breathable cotton fabric, easy pull-on style and and timeless details like the Boca Dress from Edith Hour I’m wearing here. I love the loose-fitting feminine fit that allows me to move effortlessly throughout my day, whether I’m staying home or running up the street to drop Lively off to play with her Mimi. It also has pockets (yes please!) and comes in three beautiful color options. I mentioned my beloved Grannie earlier and Edith Hour was actually named after founder, Emily’s, grandmother – Helen Edith. She taught Emily to begin each day with her favorite lipstick, a beautiful smile, and her best foot forward. I just love that!
