It’s hard to believe that summer is already drawing to a close. Although the weather doesn’t quite reflect the fact that fall is quickly approaching here in the south, I know that soon we’ll be waking up to chillier mornings and falling leaves. Truthfully, I’m looking forward to cooler weather, but it can be tricky to dress for those in-between days that require a sweater in the morning even though you know you’ll be taking it off in the afternoon for fear of overheating.
Over the years, I’ve learned that my ideal summer-to-fall transition wardrobe consists of summer pieces layered with sweaters and jackets that I can later peel off when it inevitably gets too hot. It’s a win-win because I get extra wear out of my summer items while slowly adding in cozier pieces like knits and denim. I also like to start focusing on darker colors at this time. If the main piece of your outfit is light and bright for summer, try to anchor it with more muted fall tones. And don’t forget your jewelry – I tend to gravitate toward slightly chunkier pieces (relatively speaking) to balance out the bulkier clothing items I start wearing. So let’s give our summer dresses and blouses one last hurrah by mixing them with all the cozy pieces we’ll be living in all winter long! Keep scrolling to see some staple looks I’ve put together and will be living in for the next few months.
A favorite outfit combination from last fall that I will be wearing again this year!

A darker jewel toned dress like this will always work for summer and fall. If it starts to get really chilly, add a denim jacket on top.
