Welcome to our kitchen! I’m so excited to show you around my favorite room in our house. As a work-from-home mom, it’s where I spend most of my days. Most often, you will find me sitting at the counter with my computer working on all things communication for ThouArtExalted, cooking some sort of Whole30 meal, washing dishes, feeding Lively all the things, or preparing flowers I’ve cut from the garden. This kitchen has also served as a sanctuary for lots and lots of prayer, meaningful conversations about life and faith, countless birthday celebrations, and most recently a place for grieving with family over the loss of my sweet father-in-law.
So, whether you are building/renovating a kitchen and are looking for some inspiration, or you are just curious what our kitchen looks like 🙂 , I hope you find it helpful, but more than that I want you to know that what makes this kitchen special is not the kitchen itself at all. It’s the community and fellowship and the breaking of bread with the people of God that I’m grateful for the most.
This kitchen island is the hub of all our gatherings. It measures 9 feet long, 3 feet & 2 inches tall, and 4 feet wide. The countertops are white Carrara Marble that we picked out locally at Superior Granite. I wanted the countertops to be more white so I chose a slab that did not have much veining. Real Carrara is beautiful to the eye and soft to the touch (and also cheaper than quartz), but it’s very porous which means it shows stains and scratches easily. I used to obsess over every scratch but now I’ve come to appreciate them because they’re signs of an imperfect family living an imperfect life here. 🙂
The painting to the right is a Lulie Wallace inspired piece my godmother painted for me before Lively was born. The delicate mix of blush pinks, soft blues and calming greens add a welcomed pop of color to this otherwise neutral kitchen. Written ever so faintly in between the petals are Lively’s name and Jeremiah 29:11. My godmother told me that if and when I have more children, she’ll come and write their names inside the other petals. Words cannot describe how special this is to me!
To the right of the farmhouse sink is our dishwasher and to the right of that is a skinny cabinet that holds cookie sheets and muffin tins. To the left of the sink is a double pull out trash can. There is also a small cabinet to the very far left that has become “Lively’s cabinet” that I’ve filled with random cups, bowls and spoons so she can play next to me while I’m cooking or washing dishes.
I chose this sink faucet for it’s traditional style and elegant bridge detailing – something I knew wouldn’t go out of style.
The cabinets are painted Sherwin Williams Extra White and taped on the insides are some of my favorite Scriptures – Lamentations 3:22-23 and Zephaniah 3:17. Feasting on the Word of God throughout the day fills me up and satisfies my hunger more than any of my most delicious Whole30 meals. 🙂
The backsplash is a 3×6 White Subway Tile and the tile grout color is a very light gray called Frost. Simple and classic!
On this far end of the kitchen is my little coffee station. I keep my coffee cups, pods, teas and vitamins in the cabinet up above. Whenever we have guests, I pull out a few cups, a handful of pods, a napkin and spoon and set it up just like you see here so that our guests can easily self serve. It’s a thoughtful gesture that makes them feel at home and also makes my life easier. I learned this tip from The Nester.
I searched high and low for an affordable buffalo check roman shade (inspired by the one in one of my favorite blogger’s kitchens, Monika Hibbs) for this small window, and was so excited when I finally found one on Etsy. I love the way it elevates the whole kitchen, but more than that I enjoyed the conversations I had with Angela (the sweet woman who made it) about how amazing our God is and how grateful we are to be mom’s to sweet girls (she has 3!).
I get asked about our barstools often and they are from Ballard Design. They are incredibly comfortable and durable but the fabric is light and will show stains. Lively is not old enough to eat at them so we haven’t had to worry about that yet but I know it’s coming and will have to come up with a plan. 🙂
I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick little tour! I am so grateful for this lovely space (even the sticky floors covered in crumbs that you can’t see!). It’s my hope and prayer that all who gather here will experience the richness of Christ and that they will taste and see that the Lord is good.

Mycah – your kitchen is lovely. Our tastes are very similar and I always get the best ideas from you. It’s amazing how kitchens (in particular) become the spaces in our homes where we gather to work, create, laugh, discuss and support one another. May your kitchen island be a spot for never-ending smiles and feeling the love and support of family, friends, and faith. God bless your father-in-law and your family.
