After nearly seven years in the house Todd and I built together before having babies, we are moving. Not too far, just a few miles down the road. It feels very bittersweet as we have filled our first home with a lot of love and precious memories, but we are excited for what the Lord has in store at our new home. There have been so many events, decisions and circumstances over the last few months that have led us here and it has been incredible to watch God orchestrate every single detail.
A Southern Living home built in 1993, the house is a classic beauty inside and out. I have always loved a Colonial Style home (something you’d find up in Virginia or New England) while Todd prefers something more Southern with a front porch, and this house is truly a perfect blend of the two styles. There’s formal living and dining rooms, double exposed brick chimneys, original hardwood floors, and an awesome bonus space above the garage we intend to use as a playroom. Towering pine trees and sprawling live oaks surround the house and you can spot a family of deer any time of day. We are so excited for the kids to have room to explore and experience so much of God’s beauty on a daily basis.
With the house being 30 years old, it does need some renovating. The first projects we plan to tackle are:
- Refinishing and staining the hardwood floors
- New carpet in the upstairs bedrooms
- Painting… lots of painting!
- Updating the kitchen with new countertops, cabinets and hardware
- Replacing some doors, handrails, stair spindles, etc. for safety purposes
The bathrooms are all original from the 90’s, and while they definitely look dated, they function just fine so we will renovate those sometime in the next few years.
In all, it’s a great blank canvas we can really make our own over time. The design enthusiast in me is overjoyed at all the possibilities and I’m so excited to take you on this journey with us.
Speaking of interior design, I am so excited to be working with Mackenzie Zwick of Mackenzie Page Interiors. She creates the most beautiful, timeless spaces layered with bold florals, fun wallpapers and feminine touches. Her taste is exquisite and I’m so grateful to have her guiding me through a lot of the design decisions.
One of our first priorities is getting the kids’ rooms situated to help make this major life change smoother. For Cameron’s room, I plan to do a “copy and paste” of his current nursery since I really love it and he’s not ready for a big boy room yet. I also think it will help create a sense of normalcy for him. For Lively’s room, I’m looking forward to refreshing her big girl room with some new wallpaper and fabrics. Mackenzie and I have been dreaming up something really sweet and classic and will also be incorporating the drapes from my childhood bedroom. Can’t wait to share more soon!
Moving during the holiday season has been as crazy as you’d imagine, but I couldn’t be more grateful for God’s timing of it all. We are far from settled, but are excited to celebrate Christmas and the birth of our Savior in our new home.
As we step into this new chapter, we praise God for His loving-kindness and abundant grace. We pray that the warmth of His love and His perfect peace would be ever present within these walls, and that the name of Jesus would be worshiped and known here for generations to come. We look forward to stewarding this home in a meaningful way for the sake of God’s glory and our joy in Him.
And as we close out the year, I want to say thank you for being here. Thank you for reading and commenting on my posts, supporting me by shopping through my links, and being so kind to my family. It means a lot and I’m truly so grateful for the community we have here. From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!
Stay tuned for lots of fun home content in 2023!
